The Power of Awe
Can I ask you something? Where has your energy been going this week? Not in the abstract, I mean hour by hour. The phone call you dreaded and made anyway. The commitment you said yes to before you'd properly thought about it. The relationship that always leaves you a little smaller than it found you.
October's theme is 'The Power of Awe.' That can't-quite-believe-it, blissed-out, expansive, warming, all-encompassing feeling that quite often catches us by surprise. And one of the reasons for that is, we need space to notice it, to drop into it and to fully be present in it. You can't be moved by something while you're also busy juggling everything that's draining you.
So this week, before we go looking for wonder, we're doing something quieter. We're taking an honest look at where our energy goes, and asking what we might be able to put down.
The New Moon falls in Libra this Thursday 10th October, which is just the right moment for it. Libra's question is always about relationship, and the first and most important relationship worth tending is the one you have with YOURSELF.
This isn't about overhauling your life by Friday. It's about noticing one thing, maybe two, that cost you more than they give back, and giving yourself permission to do less of them. That's the focus of our practice this week.
For what it's worth, here's a few of mine from recent years:
Ironing (gone, no regrets), tidying my kids' rooms daily (genuinely soul-destroying), replying to messages the second they land (three to five business days is absolutely fine), the hairdryer (my hair has never been better), wearing make-up (why hide what's real?), saying yes to things I don't actually want to do (this one alone frees up more energy than anything else on this list). There are so many places we give and don't receive. Be choiceful.
If you'd like to join me in person, see the class schedule here.
If you can't join in person but would like to dive in online, join my YouTube channel for recorded classes.
However we meet this month, I invite you to put down as much as the heavy arduous stuff as you can, and to allow the space for JOY.
Love always, Laura x
